Doniphan County Pet Rescue Fund
Mission Statement: Doniphan County Pet Rescue exists to help pets in need through sheltering, adoption, education, spay/neuter and community outreach. Need: $63,000—new dog kennels $50,000 and demolition of building $13,000 Having no paid staff, Doniphan County Pet Rescue relies solely on donations. We have used our funds for investment in our long-term viability: installing a septic system, adding a pet wash station and bathroom to the office, and making insurance payments. We have two expensive goals. First, we would like to purchase a new dog kennel facility that is insulated, climate-controlled, sturdy, and easy to clean. At approximately $50,000, the kennels for 8 dogs aren’t cheap, but we want to use the generous gifts we receive in a way that will benefit the community for as long as possible. Our other expensive project is the removal of the former Bendena school at an estimated cost of $13,000. The building is past the point of rehabilitation.Donate to this fund

Other projects include: bathroom remodel, concession stand paint and electrical improvements, new playground equipment and a gaga ball pit. We also want to develop the old saddle club grounds into a multi sports area for football, soccer and softball.Donate to this fund

Highland Historical Society Fund
The St. Martha’s AME Church in Highland was built in 1882, fulfilling the dream of Martha Hubbard, who was born a slave in 1828. She was sold three times and separated from her children. She and her husband managed to escape from slavery and then settled in Highland, where they were later re-united with their children. Martha died in 1913. The church building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in July of 2000. The Highland Historical Society, with support from the Kansas Historical Society and other organizations and individuals, has worked to preserve this building which is so important to the local history of Highland and Doniphan County. So far, the Highland Historical Society has given the building a new foundation and roof, painted the exterior, and prepared the interior for upgrading. The Society hopes to use Give Where You Live donations to help with much needed electrical work.Donate to this fund
