Building a stronger foundation through collaboration, vision, and community commitment
Posted Tuesday April 14, 2026

On March 28, the Doniphan County Community Foundation (DCCF) Board of Directors gathered at Highland Community College for a strategic retreat centered on growth, collaboration, and long-term impact.

Throughout the morning, board members engaged in thoughtful discussions about the future of the foundation and the communities it serves. The retreat opened with a meaningful reflection activity, where members shared why they are passionate about this work and the impact they hope to make locally. This set the tone for a day rooted in purpose and commitment.

A significant portion of the retreat focused on strengthening the foundation’s structure and sustainability. The board explored steps toward establishing an independent nonprofit status, improving access to important business documents, and ensuring smooth transitions of information moving forward. These efforts are part of DCCF’s ongoing work to build a strong and stable foundation for all affiliated funds.

The board also discussed opportunities to expand community impact through strategic planning, enhanced storytelling, and increased visibility. Conversations included long-term goals, donor engagement strategies, and ways to make giving more accessible for community members.

In addition, planning efforts for the annual Give Where You Live Day are already underway, with a focus on intentional storytelling, strong event execution, and meaningful donor connections.

The retreat also provided time to honor the legacy of longtime board member Esther Gormley, whose dedication to the foundation and the community continues to inspire future initiatives.

Overall, the retreat reflected DCCF’s commitment to continuous improvement. By prioritizing planning, training, and innovation, the board is actively working to create a stronger, more impactful foundation. One that will continue to support and grow opportunities for all funds and the communities they serve.
